3D Mammography
Also known as Tomosynthesis or tomography is a specialised mammogram machine that can take 3D images of the breast. In conjunction with the 2D Mammogram images it significantly boosts breast cancer detection, especially with woman who have dense breasts.
Preparation for your mammogram
- Schedule your mammogram when your breasts are not tender to reduce discomfort during the procedure.
- Preferably wear a two piece outfit.
- On the day of your mammogram avoid wearing deodorants, anti-perspirants, powders or lotions on chest area.
- If you’ve had any previous mammogram/ultrasound/biopsy procedures done elsewhere please bring your imaging and reports along for Dr to compare.

Bone Densitometry
Also known as Bone density or mineral density testing, this is a quick non-invasive scan to screen if you are at risk of osteoporosis. Osteoporosis is a disease causing bones to become more fragile over time. This scan can determine if bones are starting to thin before a bone breaks. Allowing the doctor and patient to then determine the best course of action to slow or reverse the process. Breast for Life recommends woman and men from 50 years of age should begin regular bone density screening. Physicians may request bone density screening for younger patients based on medical conditions or symptoms.
